METHODS INVOLVING MOVEMENT OF
THE SOLID
As
an extension of drying by passing the airstream through a static bed of solids,
it is possible to project air upward through the bed at a velocity high enough
to fluidize the particles. Alternatively, the material may be mechanically
sub-divided and then introduced into the drying stream. Both methods give high
drying rates due to high interfacial contact between the drying surfaces and
the airstream. Fluidized bed dryers and spray dryers, respectively, use these
principles.
