THROUGH-CIRCULATION DRYING
If
the particles are in a suitable granular form, it is often possible to pass the
airstream downward through the bed of solids. Drying will then follow the
pattern described in previous sections except that each particle or agglomerate
behaves as a drying bed. The surface area exposed to the drying gases is
greatly increased and drying rates 10 to 20 times greater than those
encountered when air is passed over a free surface are obtained.
