CONCLUSION
Though
relatively rare, idiosyncratic haematological ADR are potentially life
threatening. Any patient receiving drug therapy who presents with symptoms of
anaemia, unusual infection or bleeding should have simple screening tests
including a FBC performed. Significant cytopenias or coagulation derangement
should prompt the consideration of the possibility of ADR and discontinuation
or substitution of potentially implicated agents. Patients should be
investigated and managed by staff with appropriate expertise and facil-ities
for relevant supportive care.
